Doug HerrmanValerie HerrmanUnknown. His photo above is shown age-progressed to 21 years. Adam was last seen in Towanda, Kansas sometime during the late spring or summer of 1999. He lived in the Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park with his adoptive parents, Douglas Herrman and Valerie Herrman (photos at right), and his two younger siblings. The Herrmans stated that Adam had run away during the first week of May after Valerie Herrman had disciplined him. They said they were afraid to report him missing because they thought they might get into trouble with the authorities. They continued to collect adoption subsidy payments for Adam until his eighteenth birthday. Adam's disappearance wasn't revealed to police until 2008, when his adoptive sister contacted them after she'd tried to locate him through the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services and discovered that the SRS believed he'd lived with the Herrmans until he turned 18, something his sister knew was not true. The Herrmans were charged with felony theft for accepting subsidy payments and claiming Adam on their tax returns, but they have never been charged with Adam's disappearance. Foul play is suspected, and his case remains unsolved.
