Circumstances of Disappearance: |
Unknown. At the time of his disappearance, Nicholas was in the care of his mother, Priscilla Plaza and Priscilla's boyfriend, Ruben Zavala Jr. Interviews reveal that Nicholas's health appeared to be deteriorating over a period of time and was in need of medical attention. In a television interview, Zavala revealed to a reporter that Nicholas was deceased. Nicholas was last seen alive on October 23, 2001 and has not been seen since. In 2005, authorities obtained a warrant for Zavala, who was arrested and charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child. He had admitted all along that he had put Nicholas's body in the dumpster. A warrant was also obtained for Nicholas' mother, Priscilla Plaza, and she was arrested as well. In July, 2007, the trial of Ruben Zavala, Jr. concluded with a guilty verdict and a sentence of 67 years in prison. Nicholas' mother had pled guilty and was sentenced to 20 years. Nicholas has never been found, but foul play is suspected due to circumstances. |
