Dennis was last seen on a canoe trip with his roommate. Around 7:00 p.m. on May 19, 1973, their canoe overturned when it went over an irrigation diversion dam about one mile west of Henry, Nebraska. His roommate was able to make it to shore, but when he couldn’t find Dennis, he went to a nearby house and notified the authorities. Dennis’ life jacket was later found down the river, but his body has never been recovered. The Scotts Bluff Sheriff’s Office received new information in 1994 when the case was featured on a law enforcement television show. After confirming the information, they reopened the case. The new evidence has not been publicly released.
