Monroe lived in a barn that had been converted into an apartment in the Edgewood Farm area of Loudoun County, Virginia. On May 8, 2005, the barn burned down and afterwards the bones of his dogs were found but there was no trace of Monroe. He lived a minimalist lifestyle and didn't have a driver's license, bank account, credit cards, or cell phone. The last time anyone heard from Monroe was at 9:00 p.m. the previous night. He has never been heard from again.
