Vendrick suffers from diabetes and does not have his medicine with him.


On February 18, 2008 deputies conducted a welfare check at the Marina Inn in the city of Dana Point in an attempt to locate Vendrick. Vendrick, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, came to Orange County on February 15, 2008, to meet an investment partner, Gary Shawkey.  According to family members he was to take a boat to San Clemente Island to close a business deal. Vendrick's personal belongings were found in his hotel room along with his medication for diabetes. In February of 2009, authorities charged Mr. Shawkey with Vendrick's murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Vendrick's remains have never been recovered.
